Upon entering the Grand Hall, visitors will marvel at the extravagance on display in Henry B. Plant's Hotel, known for good reason as "Plant's Palace." The collection reflects the lifestyle of the late Victorian period, an era of conspicuous consumption appropriately dubbed "The Gilded Age."
The Grand Hall is illuminated by 1891 Edison carbon filament lighting, and decorated with original paint colors and voluptuous Victorian furnishings. Exquisite Boulle-style cabinetry is featured along with silvered bronze busts of Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots, a Parian bust of Queen Victoria, and the original electrified blackamoors that once lit the Grand Staircase.
